“Counselling is not about fixing what’s broken, it’s about coming home to yourself. It is a space for healing, where avoidance gives way to curiosity, and curiosity to joy and growth.” – Tarana Wafi
Why counselling?
Change doesn’t have to be dramatic or loud. Sometimes it begins quietly, in the moment you choose to care for yourself, to loosen old patterns, or to stop chasing approval. Adverse childhood experiences, trauma, loss, and other overwhelming events can shape how we see ourselves and others. They can erode our sense of safety and trust, leave us feeling disconnected or rigid, and make it hard to imagine a hopeful future. Feelings of shame, guilt, numbness, or not feeling “enough” can become familiar companions.
Counselling offers a space to gently rebuild connection, between body and mind, and between self and others. Healing happens in relationship: when we are met with empathy, curiosity, and acceptance, we can begin to rediscover trust, choice, and possibility. For me, that shift — from trying to change the world to learning to meet myself with compassion — changed everything. I bring that same spirit to the work we’ll do together. About me
My name is Tarana Wafi – and like many of the people I work with, I’ve lived through uncertainty, trauma, and the deep grief of losing parts of my identity. I’ve moved across countries, cultures, and languages, sometimes by choice and often not. Each experience has shaped me, and taught me to honour both difference and shared humanity. I have made Somerset my home where I work and enjoy country walks with my dog.
The meaning of my name is song or melody, and over time I’ve come to see that healing, like music, has its own rhythm, sometimes soft, sometimes intense, but always capable of movement and change.
Working through my own trauma helped me reconnect with joy, humour, creativity, and self-compassion. Yoga, poetry, laughter, and deep connection have all been part of my healing. And in my work, I bring both playfulness and seriousness, warmth and structure, presence and curiosity, exploration and boundaries.
I am an experienced mental health practitioner and qualified counsellor with a background in working with organisations such as Mind. My foundation is in person-centred therapy, and I draw from a range of approaches to create an integrative, flexible way of working. This integrative approach means I meet you where you are, not with a fixed method, but with the intention to support your unique journey.
I believe therapy is a space for curiosity and reflection. A place where you can explore the patterns that no longer serve you, reconnect with your inner wisdom, and begin to feel more at home in yourself, find your own meaning.
In this work, I am not an expert. I am a facilitator — someone to walk alongside you. Change will come, as it always does. But it doesn’t have to undo us. Sometimes, it can become the very path back to ourselves.
Start the change within
This space invites you to meet yourself where you are, honour the ways that helped you to survive in the past, and open to new rhythms of healing and wholeness.
True change begins within but at times starting therapy can feel like a big step, and it’s completely okay to feel unsure. That’s why it begins with a simple conversation; a free 30-minute call to ask questions, share what feels comfortable, and see if working together feels right for us.
