Frequently Asked Questions

In-Person Counselling – FAQs

Where do sessions take place?

Sessions are held in a quiet, private therapy room in [your location here — e.g., South Somerset]. The space is comfortable, confidential, and easy to access.

Is in-person therapy better than online?

Not necessarily — it depends on what feels right for you. Some people find in-person sessions more grounding or easier for building trust. Others may prefer the convenience of online therapy. We can talk through what suits you best.

What if I feel nervous about coming in person?

That’s completely normal. You’re welcome to bring your questions or hesitations to our first call, and we’ll move at your pace.

Online Counselling – FAQs

How do online sessions work?

We’ll meet over a secure video platform like Zoom. You just need a quiet space, a reliable internet connection, and a device with a camera and mic.

Is online therapy as effective as face-to-face?

Yes — research shows that online therapy can be just as effective as in-person sessions, especially when there’s a strong therapeutic relationship. Many clients find it easier to open up in the comfort of their own space.

What if I’m not comfortable with technology?

That’s okay. I can guide you through the process step by step and offer a short tech check before your first session.

Walk and Talk Therapy – FAQs

What is Walk and Talk Therapy?

Walk and Talk Therapy is a form of talking therapy held outdoors, where we walk together in nature while exploring what’s on your mind. The focus remains the same as in the therapy room — building a trusting relationship, working through challenges, and supporting growth. The structure and ethics are the same, with a few practical considerations we’ll agree on beforehand.

Why might I want to try this?

Some people find it easier to talk while walking side by side, without the intensity of face-to-face conversation. Being in nature can offer a calming, grounding presence — helping you feel more open, connected, and at ease. Gentle movement can also support emotional processing, mindfulness, and nervous system regulation. It’s not about fitness; it’s about fluidity, space, and support.

How does it work?

Walk and Talk sessions usually take place in quiet, safe locations like Ham Hill in Somerset. Sessions are 50 minutes and routes are chosen for comfort, safety, and privacy. Sometimes we’ll walk a circular path, or simply walk and return. There may be chances to pause and sit if that feels right. We can trial a route together and adjust over time — based on your preferences and needs.

Do we need to meet in the therapy room first?

Yes. I recommend beginning therapy in the room or online so we can build trust before moving outdoors. Once we’ve established a solid foundation and you’re interested in trying Walk and Talk, we’ll plan a session and discuss what to expect.

How is it different from in-room therapy?

The main difference is around confidentiality. While we’ll choose quiet routes and avoid busy areas, we can’t fully control the environment. If we pass someone, I’ll manage the interaction, and we’ll agree in advance how to handle these moments. We’ll also talk about safety and comfort at the start.

Do I need to be fit?

Not at all. We go at your pace, and I’ll be mindful of time and distance. If you have any health concerns, you’re encouraged to speak with your GP first.

Do I need special clothing or equipment?

Just dress appropriately for the weather — comfy shoes, a waterproof if needed, and layers depending on the season. No special gear is required.

What happens if the weather is bad?

We’ll decide together. If you’re happy to walk in light rain or wind, we can go ahead. If conditions are very poor — like heavy rain or anything that makes hearing or comfort difficult — we can switch to an indoor or online session instead. I’ll only cancel if the weather makes the walk genuinely unworkable.

What if I try it and don’t like it?

That’s completely fine. We’ll talk about it in a follow-up session, and you’re always free to return to indoor or online sessions. This is your therapy, and we’ll do what feels most helpful for you.

Can I just try one session?

Yes, absolutely. A trial session is a great way to see how it feels. Afterward, we can check in about what worked and what didn’t to help shape what comes next.

Is the cost the same as other sessions?

Yes — Walk and Talk sessions are the same rate: £55 per 50-minute session.
